Chapter History
You have to know where you’ve been to know where you are going. Kappa holds a special place in its heart for Fraternity history, but every chapter of our organization has unique beginnings of its own. Each plays a part in shaping us today. Read more about our chapters’ histories in Kappa's digital archives.
Beta Psi is the oldest international chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma, and was formally installed on May 24th 1911. Originally, the women who made up the first Beta Psi chapter were called Xi Zeta Gamma which began in 1906. Our current house on 32 Madison Ave was purchased in 1945 after the University of Toronto requested the use of the land of our original house on St. George Street for university facilities. Beta Psi has been flourishing ever since in a vibrant corner of the Annex. As we venture from our 100th anniversary, Beta Psi continues to aim for the fraternity ideals of scholarship, friendship, and leadership that it was founded upon.
Beta Psi is home to many notable alumnae, including:
- Marion Hilliard, 1950 - Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Women’s College Hospital, Toronto
- Gabrielle Jane Sellers Kroeger, 1966 - Foreign Service Officer with United Nations Division of External Affairs
- F. Marguerite Hill, 1970 - Physician-In-Chief at Women’s College Hospital, Toronto
